What are the most dangerous roads in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?

Philadelphia, PA, is a vibrant city renowned for its historical and cultural attractions.

Unfortunately, Philadelphia also has many of the most hazardous roadways in Pennsylvania. Among them, four stand out as particularly dangerous. These streets require extra caution from drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Broad Street

Broad Street features many of Philadelphia’s finest cultural landmarks, such as art galleries, performance venues and sports centers. However, the stretch of Broad Street north of City Hall is particularly unsafe. Crashes that happen here can cause serious injuries and even fatalities.

Schuylkill Expressway

The Schuylkill Expressway is a fast-paced road that follows the path of the Schuylkill River. It is the primary thoroughfare that connects Philadelphia with King of Prussia and the surrounding areas. Accidents on this road often happen because of speeding and distracted driving. Collisions with tractor-trailers can occur as well.

Delaware Expressway

The Delaware Expressway is a stretch of I-95 that passes through the city. Traffic congestion can be intense and hazardous on this road during rush hour, especially in Northeast Philadelphia. The high volume of vehicles creates more opportunities for collisions, making the Delaware Expressway the second most dangerous road in Pennsylvania.

Roosevelt Boulevard

Roosevelt Boulevard is one of the oldest roads in the United States and an important traffic artery in Philadelphia. The 11-mile road is also one of the most unsafe in the entire country. The intersections with Lion Road and Grant Avenue are especially risky and see large numbers of accidents each year.

By acknowledging the hazards of Philadelphia’s roads, residents and visitors can navigate the city with a heightened sense of awareness and responsibility.
